چکیده

A number of studies have examined the occurrence stories in lecture contexts, and suggested that can encourage student engagement acquisition retention information content. Some these analysed story structures terms Labov Waletzky's model (1967) or more elaborate developed by Martin (2008). Such models work well for recount events took place past time, but they do not capture another type story, hypothetical scenario, sufficiently well. Drawing on prior research into discourse, ‘Imagining Scenarios’ (Ädel 2010, 2012), we identify describe passages lectures where listeners are invited to imagine a fantastic situation. Scenario identification criteria were developed, examples extracted from British Academic Spoken English (BASE) corpus, Engineering Lecture Corpus (ELC), Michigan (MICASE). Novice EMI lecturers may understandably be nervous about straying away delivery facts realms fantasy, our findings suggest scenario-telling is part experienced lecturer's repertoire, an engaging way elaborating abstract technical terms, concepts, arguments central disciplinary topic.

Optimizing Classifiers for Hypothetical Scenarios

The deployment of classification models is an integral component of many modern data mining and machine learning applications. A typical classification model is built with the tacit assumption that the deployment scenario by which it is evaluated is fixed and fully characterized. Yet, in the practical deployment of classification methods, important aspects of the application environment, such a...

Asking Hypothetical Questions About Stories Using QUEST

Many computational models of narrative include representations of possible worlds—events that never actually occur in the story but that are planned or perceived by the story’s characters. Psychological tools such as QUEST are often used to validate computational models of narrative, but they only represent events which are explicitly narrated in the story. In this paper, we demonstrate that au...

However, stories, scenarios, and use cases typically exhibit a great informality that violates the traditional guidance in the requirements engineering community ...

Rainwater Harvesting Using Recorded and Hypothetical Rainfall Data Scenarios

Macro Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) under recorded and forecasting rainfall scenarios helps to overcome the water shortage problem. Eastern Sinjar District-Iraq had been investigated for the potential of RWH with a catchment area of four basins. Three recorded rainfall scenarios (S1, S2, and S3) were diagnosed representing seasons of the maximum, minimum and average weekly rainfall events for the ...
